Can I sue a company if I was injured at work?

I was working as a temp in a car parts company and I got injured while working. A roof part fell on me and cut my side of the neck! I was transferred to a hospital and an operation was made. I was wondering what are my options in terms of suing the company? I am emotionally depressed and physically scarred. Could you please help me and we may end up doing business together in the future. Thank you and I am waiting for an answer.

FIrst of all you cannot sue your employer because you would be entitled to workers compensation for both your injury and your medical bills. However you should contact a lawyer to see if you have a third party claim. IF someone else on the job could be determined to be responsible for your injuries you may sue that liable entity.

First, if you were a temp then you might not be precluded from suing the "employer". Second, if there was a defect in the building then you may have claims against the owner and the building's managing agent. Third, if you were doing construction, alteration, repair or cleaning of the building then the owner and your "employer" might be absolutely liable to you under the Labor Law. I'm definitely interested in your case.

Worker's comp covers medical expenses and time out of work. You cannot sue your employer for negligence. But, there may be someone other than your employer who is legally liable: Were you an employee of the car parts company, or were you an employee of a temp agency? How was it that part of the roof fell on you? If the car parts company was having repairs done on its roof by a contractor, it may be the contractor who is responsible. Or, if the car parts company does not own the building, there may be some liability on the part of the building landlord.
