Can I sue the hospital if I was injured during child birth?

I was pregnant and was induced September 22, but I did not have my baby till September 27. Throughout that time, besides being treated very bad from the nursing staff, I started having pain in my left wrist due to the IV that was leaking inside my skin. Shortly after I had my baby, I started to feel numbness in both hands and excruciating pain. I went to my doctor and he diagnosed me with carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis in both hands. I have lost significant amount of strength on both hands and experience numbness often. Can I sue the hospital?

You would first have to prove that the carpel tunnel came from the IV.

In order to prove a medical malpractice case, a claimant must prove a failure to conform to accepted practice, resulting in an injury. A bad result is not enough, and if it is a "judgment call" by the doctor, there is no malpractice, even if the doctor made the wrong call. So, you will have to find out why it was that it took 5 days, how it came about that the IV was leaking inside your skin and why no one caught it.
